Here I will outline some of the ecosystems, its wallet, currency and the marketplace.
Many new NFTs are launched on their own websites rather than the marketplaces, so if you do get to that point – DYOR.
Note: Some of the ecosystems I mention below may not be as in depth as some, I will also add in some links for this. This is to give you a general idea of what it is and what is needed (Wallets/Currency).
Ethereum (ETH) Ecosystem
When we say Bitcoin is king in the crypto space, well. Etheruem is the king in the NFT Space.
In this ecosystem you would pay with the native currency, ETH.
ETH can be purchased with your NZD on exchange platforms like Binance. Once you’ve done this, you will need to transfer your ETH to a wallet which will be where you store your NFTs.
When buying or minting an NFT in ETH Ecosystem, you have to make sure you have enough to cover the gas fees.
Wallet
The best wallet to have on this ecosystem is a MetaMask. This is supported by all the marketplaces. Plus, you can get the Chrome Plugin and app on your phone. If you are holding your normal investments in your MetaMask, create another wallet specifically dedicated to your NFTs, i do this to keep everything separate for security reasons.
Marketplace
Opensea – This is the largest marketplace in the space, which is a great place to start.
You can also check out other marketplaces, they are more focused on art and collectibles.
Solana (SOL) Ecosystem
Solana has been popping off this year in the NFT space, being another cool Ecosystem to look into. They are still in their early stages compared to Ethereum, but compared to the ETH nfts, you are not spending too much money on gas fees. The native currency of Solana is SOL, so you will need to make sure you have purchased that on an exchange platform.
When buying or minting an NFT in SOL Ecosystem, you have to make sure you have enough to cover the transaction fee. unlike ETH, the transaction fees are fairly low – so you wont break the bank.
Wallet
Phantom is popular and mostly used when storing your SOL NFTs. I use this for storing my NFTs. It also connects to your Hardware wallet (Nano Ledger), so it’s more protected. You can also use Solflare.
Marketplace
Binance (BNB) Ecosystem
Not only is Binance a place to Buy, Sell, Earn and Store your crypto, they also have an NFT space with its own marketplace AND a place to store and create your NFTs.
Wallet
All done on the Binance Platform.
Marketplace
This is all done on the Binance Platform. The only thing with this, is that they have a few other currencies you can use to purchase your NFT. This could be in Binance Coin (BNB), or Binance USD (BUSD), Ether (ETH). You’ll know which currency to use once you look on the marketplace.
Flow by Dapper Labs Ecosystem
Dappers Labs is quite well known for NBA Enthusiasts where they run on the FLOW blockchain. This ones a different one, as you don’t need to use a wallet or buy and transfer your cryptocurrency.
Some of the projects on this:
UFC – coming soon
Cardano (ADA) Ecosystem
This new space Cardano has just opened up, and I am extremely excited to jump into it! It is at such early stages but will see heaps of improvements over the next few years. See: Top Cardano projects
Wallets
Daedalus, Nami, Yoroi, Adalite.
Marketplace
WAX (WAXP) Ecosystem
The currency they use for this is WAXP- so make sure you remember that if you do dive into this ecosystem. This is not available on Coinbase, but is available on Binance.
Wallet
Marketplace
AtomicHub and NeftyBlocks.
Fantom (FTM) Ecosystem
I have recently tapped into this space! Although, setting up your FTM into your Wallet can be a pain, it is worth the time. Especially if you’re in for some Graff Gems.
Wallet
Metamask. This can be a full on process BUT doable – Check this article – How to get FTM onto my Metamask.
Marketplace
Gaming NFTs
This one is an interesting one, you can have a range of digital assets like avatars, accessories, land. You can earn, stake, the possibilities are endless in this space. I won’t go in depth with these, but i will name a few here:
NFT art and collectibles are already being created and traded on other ecosystems like Ethernity, EOS, Waves, Fantom and Chiliz. Tron is also working on building in the NFT space.
It’s all early days with new projects and blockchains being created! The more you know, the more you are prepared.
Check out DYOR once you have found an ecosystem you are looking to go into.
